Rosacker is among the most celebrated of Alsace's Grands Crus vineyards, with descriptions of its wines dating back to 1483. It owes its name to the wild roses, which grow in abundance around the edge of the vineyard.

 

The limestone soils here produce Rieslings that are bone-dry yet which have a rare richness and mouth-filling texture. With great complexity and balance this Organic wine will easily age for two decades.


 

 

VARIETY : Riesling


 

SOIL : The Rosacker soil is dominated by limestones (fossil ammonite) almost entirely dolomitized, various coloured marls and compact dolomites. the soils are rich in nutrients with calcium and magnesium, clayey and heavy in texture, with limestone and dolomite pebbles


 

VINEYARD : This 40 years old vineyard is located on the north of Hunawihr, a small village situated between Ribeauvillé and Riquewihr, at an altitude between 260 and 330 metres and exposed east-south-east


 

HISTORY


It is one of the most famous Grand Crus in Alsce, mainly due the magnificent Chapel overlooking the vineyard. The Rosacker owes its name to the wild rose, which grew in abundance around the edge of the vineyard. A citizen of Ribeauvillé owned vineyards on the site in 1497.


 

WINE TASTING


Complex, taut and mineral with some spice, apricot, lime and pear. A hint of tangerine, and lovely tingling acidity. Great complexity and balance.


 

AGEING POTENTIAL : 20-25 years
